Battle of Alesia
[edit]The siege of Alesia was the last major battle between the Gauls under Vercingetorix and the Romans under Julius Caesar. Danielle Porte, a professor at the Sorbonne, has argued for an alternative theory that a site in Chaux-des-Crotenay better fits the historical description. However, the consensus of the scientific community is that the siege of Alesia happened in what is today the commune of Alise-Sainte-Reine, based on a considerable amount of archaeological and historical research[5].
