    ジョージア州議会元老院（英語:The Georgia State Senate）は、アメリカ合衆国ジョージア州の州議会である、ジョージア州議会の上院である。州上院と下院であるジョージア州議会代議院は、同州の両院制議会を構成する。上院と下院は、州法が州憲法、合衆国憲法、連邦法に優先することを前提に、州憲法第3条に基づき、「州の福祉のために必要かつ適切」な法律を制定する権限を有する。

    アメリカ合衆国上院のほとんどと同様、上院はジョージア州知事によって任命されたさまざまな役職を承認する独占的な権限を持ち、下院が提起した弾劾裁判を審理する。上院は、最終的により高い地位を目指す人々の足がかりとして考えられている場合が多く、州知事の職に就いたことのある人物は、州上院議員を務めた経験がある。

    法的規定

    州上院は、ジョージア州議会の上院であり、下院はジョージア州下院である。両院は、アトランタのジョージア州会議事堂で毎年招集することが憲法で義務付けられている。州議会は毎年1月の第2月曜日に開会する[1]。開会日から40日間の会期となる[2]。

    両院の議員の5分の3以上の賛成票により、総会は特別会期を招集することができる。ジョージア州の特別会期は最長40日間までとする[3]。

    議員要件

    州上院は56人の議員で構成され、各議員は他の議員と同じ規模の選挙区から選出されている。州議員の任期は2年で、選挙は偶数年に実施される。議員は選挙後、1月の第2月曜日に正式に就任する。

    上院議員になるには、25歳以上でなければならない[4]。また、ジョージア州に少なくとも2年以上居住し、有権者資格も取得しなければならない[5]。

    指導部

    正式な州上院議長は、4年ごとに全州で選出されるジョージア州副知事である。上院のその他の重要な役職には、仮議長（上院議員全員の投票で選出される）、多数党院内総務、多数党院内幹事、多数党院内幹事（それぞれ、現時点で共和党党員総会の過半数の投票で選出される）がある[6]。

    少数党は少数党院内総務が率いるが、この院内総務は少数党院内会派によって選出される[7]。

    報酬

    州議会議員の現在の報酬は17,342ドルである。多数党院内総務と少数党院内総務は、さらに毎月400ドルを受け取る。

    役職

    上院の議長は上院議長である。仮議長（通常は多数党の高位議員）は、議長が一時的に欠けた場合に議長の職務を代行する。議長の死亡、辞任、永久欠格の場合、または議長が行政権を継承した場合は、仮議長が議長となる。上院にはまた、役員として上院書記官がいる。

    州憲法によると、この議会は2年任期で選出される56名以下の議員で構成される。現行の州法では56名の議員が定められている。選挙は偶数年の11月の第1月曜日の翌週の火曜日に実施される。

    上院議員になるには、25歳以上で、米国市民であり、選挙の2年前からジョージア州に、選挙の1年前から選挙区に居住していなければならない。上院の最高位は上院議長で、現在はバート・ジョーンズ副知事が務めている。2番目に高い地位は仮議長で、現在はブッチ・ミラー上院議員が務めている。
