We Live in Time is a 2024 romantic comedy drama film directed by John Crowley from a screenplay by Nick Payne. It stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2024, and is scheduled to be released by StudioCanal in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2025.

Production

Nick Payne developed the script for We Live in Time with StudioCanal. The film is executive produced by Benedict Cumberbatch for his London-based company SunnyMarch; also producing are Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland for SunnyMarch, and Guy Heeley for Shoebox films, as well as Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin for StudioCanal.[3]

As of March 2023, Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh were in talks to star in the film, which was announced shortly after Garfield and Pugh presented an award together at the 95th Academy Awards.[3]

Principal photography began in London in April 2023, with cast and crew reported in Herne Hill.[4][5] Later that month, they were spotted at a Co-op in Blackfen.[6]

Release

In May 2023, A24 acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film.[7] StudioCanal handled worldwide sales and will distribute directly in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the Benelux, Australia and New Zealand.[8] A first look image of the film displaying a cute scene of leads Garfield and Pugh along with an awkward carousel horse became an internet meme.[9]

We Live in Time premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2024.[10] For its European premiere, it was selected to close the official selection of the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival, playing out of competition.[11] A24 scheduled the film for a limited theatrical release in the United States on 11 October 2024.[12] The film will be released theatrically in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 1 January 2025.[13] Beta Fiction Spain will release theatrically the film in Spain on 3 January 2025.[11]

Reception

The film holds an 88% "Fresh" score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 26 critic reviews with an average rating of 7.5/10.[14] On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, the film holds a score of 66/100, based on 13 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.[15]
