Omar II (ʿUmar bin ʿAbdallāh[1]) was the mai of the Kanem–Bornu Empire in 1466–1467,[1] ruling during a century-long chaotic period of internal and external conflict.

Life

[edit]

Omar was a son of mai Abdullah III Dakumuni[2] (r. 1425–1433)[1] and succeeded Othman IV as mai in 1466.[1] Omar was a despotic ruler who spent his brief reign in competition with the more powerful and successful rival Muhammad V.[3] Over the course of a year, Muhammad gained the upper hand in their civil war.[3] Muhammad deposed (and probably killed) Omar[3] in 1467.[1]
