Lois, Texas
Lois is an unincorporated community in Cooke County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 20 in 2000. It is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
History
The area in what is known as Lois today developed in the late 1800s. A post office was established at Lois in 1897 and remained in operation until 1904. The community had a factory, two churches, two businesses, and several scattered houses serving 50 people in 1936. It still had a factory, only one business, a church, and 60 residents in 1963. Only a church and several scattered houses remained on the 1978 county highway map. Its population was 20 in 2000.[2]
Geography
Lois is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 2848, 336, and 247, 12 mi (19 km) south of Gainesville and 6 mi (9.7 km) southwest of Valley View in southern Cooke County.[3]
Education
Lois had its own school in 1936. It joined the Valley View Independent School District in 1943.[2]
