Kuzey Tunçelli (born 30 August 2007) is a Turkish swimmer competing in the 800 m and 1500 m freestyle swimming events. In 2024, he became European champion in the 1500 m freestyle event. He is qualified for participation at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Career
2023
Tunçelli became the first swimmer 15 years or younger with a time under 15 minutes for the 1500 m freestyle event in April 2023 at the Turkish World Championship Trials.[2][3]
In April 2023, he qualified to represent his country at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France after he achieved a time of 14:56:67 in the 1500 m freestyle event at the Turkish Youth-Junior and Open Age Long Course National Team Selection Competitions in Edirne, Turkey.[4]
He won the gold medal in the 1500 m freestyle swimming event at the 2023 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival in Maribor, Slovenia, and set a Festival record for boys with 14:54.16 on 25 July 2023. In September 2023 he participated in the 2023 World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, where he won in the 800 m and 1500 m freestyle event.[5]
2024
Tunçelli participated in the 2024 World Aquatics Championships where he reached the 1500 m freestyle final.[6]
In June 2024, he became the 1500 m freestyle European champion in Belgrade.[7]
Tunçelli is a member of Fenerbahçe Swimming.[8]
