History

[edit]

The town was founded by Jan Aleksander Koniecpolski in the 17th century.[2] It was named after the founder.[2] It was private town of the Koniecpolski, Potocki and Krasiński families.[2]

Following the German-Soviet invasion of Poland, which started World War II in September 1939, Janów was occupied by Germany until 1945.

Rose Girone, the oldest Holocaust survivor at the time of her death on February 25, 2025, was born in Janów.[3]
