Isidora Sekulić Award

The Isidora Sekulić Award (Serbian: Nagrada Isidora Sekulić, Serbian Cyrillic: Награда Исидора Секулић) is one of most important Serbian respective former Yugoslavian Literature Awards, established by Belgrade municipality of Savski venac in 1967 and awarded annually since 1968 in Honor To Cosmopolitan Isidora Sekulić. It honors female and male writers of current literature for best work of modern Serbian literature from previous year. In its first decade, several authors had been awarded annually. Since 1979, only single winner received the award each year. A total of 75 persons (64 male and 11 female) received the award since its inception. Category Poetry had been awarded at last in 1979. In 1980, chairwoman Tanja Kragujević responded speech in front of Municipal Assembly before her newly election as Chairwoman of jury, reconfirmed with following words: it dilutes every prize, because it doesn't correspond to the work of that woman, whom I admire and revere! I can't even claim to be worthy of namesake, but men don't even come close to her Oeuvre... no more books should be awarded like called poetry literary prize... either that's my content-based demand, or I voluntarily resign as chairwoman. Isidora didn't write "poetry", she portrayed Truths In Art!

Sekulić Award Laureates had been presented anually in the Great Festival Hall of Savski venac Municipality building from 1968 until 2020, since 2021 is Villa Peace in The Summer Gardens Of Royal Residence by King Peter I. central Culture Event location.

Mrs. Sekulić gave a speech on INTERNATIONALISM OF YUGOSLAVIAN IDEA in the Great Festival Hall on last Birthday before death.

Royal Majesty also attempted Cosmopolitan policy for modern Serbia of peaceful Future. [1][2]

Composition Of Jury

All members of the Municipal Assembly decide only by absolute majority 1 Chairwoman or Chairman and 7 Academic Professionals. These persons must be confirmed in their positions by the assembly every year, and all democratic votes are only valid if no member of assembly is absent from election.


Each Chairwoman or -man of Jury does not have the right to vote in election; he or she may only give intervention as neutral moderator regarding the communicationstyle of proceedings. Only an absolute majority is valid in election; there may be no abstentions, and all members are required to attend until the results are known. There may be several sessions, each of which must have four hours at least.
