Dutch Boats in a Gale oil painting by the English artist J. M. W. Turner .[ 1] seascape , it depicts Dutch fisherman struggling against a storm.
It was commissioned by the Duke of Bridgewater as a companion piece to a seventeenth century painting in his possession.[ 2] Royal Academy 's Summer Exhibition at Somerset House .[ 3] National Gallery in London.[ 4]
