Allie Thornton is an American professional soccer player from Arlington, Texas, who currently plays as a forward for the Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League.

College career

SMU Mustangs

In 2016, Thornton joined the SMU Mustangs. She earned numerous accolades, including First Team All-Conference in every season and multiple All-Region honors, highlighted by a standout four-goal game against Northern Colorado in 2019.[1]

Thornton played a total 79 games, starting in 78, and scored 37 goals with 9 assists throughout her collegiate career. Her 37 goals is the 9th most goals scored in program history.[2]

Professional career

Le Havre

After going undrafted in the 2020 NWSL College Draft, Thornton signed with French club Le Havre later that year. Thornton has French citizenship, acquired through her father, which made her eligible to join the team without requiring a work visa.[3][4]

She made her professional debut on September 5, 2020, in an away win against Issy, scoring a goal in the 53rd minute and getting an assist.[5]

Issy

Thornton transferred to Issy, in 2021 but would only stay for one season.[6] She made her club debut in a league game against Soyaux on August 28, 2021.

Anderlecht

After spending two years in France, Thornton joined Belgian club Anderlecht.[7][8] In April 2023, she extended her contract another year with the club. She played a pivotal role in securing back-to-back league championships for Anderlecht in 2023 and 2024.[9]

Thornton scored a brace against Polish side UKS SMS Łódź on August 18, 2022 during the 2022–23 UEFA Women's Champions League. One of her goals came in stoppage time, securing a 3–2 come from behind victory for Anderlecht.[1]

Dallas Trinity

In June 2024, Thornton agreed to join Dallas Trinity FC for their inaugural season in the USL Super League (USLS) as their 4th signee overall. College teammate, Sam Estrada, would join a few days later.[10] Thornton made her club debut in Dallas Trinity's inaugural match against Tampa Bay Sun FC on August 18, 2024. She was named to the USL Team of the Month for August 2024.[11]

On September 13, Thornton become the first player in league and club history to score a hat trick which was also a perfect hat trick in a 6–2 home win over Lexington.[12][13]

Personal life

Thornton graduated from Southern Methodist University with a bachelors degree in Applied Physiology and Sports Management.[14]
